Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal, aged 36, experienced a heart attack on Monday during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar. Leading Mohammedan, Tamim fielded for just one over before reporting chest discomfort and leaving the field. He was promptly transported to the nearby KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly Fazilatunnesa Hospital) for medical evaluation.

Initially, arrangements were made to transfer Tamim via air ambulance to another medical facility. However, due to escalating complications, he was returned to the original hospital in critical condition. Dr. Rajib Hasan, the hospital's director, reported that the procedure was successful and that Tamim's condition has since stabilized.

In light of this incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) canceled a scheduled board meeting. BCB President Faruque Ahmed, along with other board members, visited the hospital to monitor Tamim's condition and offer support.
Tamim Iqbal, a pivotal figure in Bangladesh cricket, announced his retirement from international cricket in January 2025. Over his 16-year career, he represented Bangladesh in 391 matches across all formats, amassing over 15,000 international runs.
The cricketing community has expressed widespread concern and support for Tamim's swift recovery. Former Bangladesh cricketer Athar Ali Khan urged fans to pray for Tamim's health, stating, "Prayers for Tamim Iqbal & requesting everyone to pray for his quick recovery.
