Gautam Gambhir: Former Indian batsman and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has blasted the team tactics of Team India coach Gautam Gambhir.
Sanjay Manjrekar Blasts Gautam Gambhir
Manjrekar commented that all-rounder Washington Sundar seems to be the ‘Kailash Jeevan’ of Gambhir. The commentator said Gambhir brings out Sundar every time the team has a batting or bowling issue. Manjrekar said on Sports Next that this “one remedy for all problems” just doesn’t work.
DON'T MISS
Manjrekar blasted the tactics of Gambhir after Team India suffered its heaviest defeat in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup. The loss against South Africa has put the Men in Blue on the brink of elimination. Moreover, the loss has dealt a massive blow to the net run rate of Team India. The favourites to retain the ICC T20 World Cup title are now left struggling to win both their matches with big victory margins.
The former Indian batsman also questioned the tactic of Gambhir to promote Washington Sundar to number 5 after Team India suffered a top-order collapse.
Manjrekar said Washington Sundar is like the trump card of Gambhir. He suggests Washington comes into the picture if there is a batting issue and he also comes in the picture when Team India has a bowling problem. Manjrekar said Washington surprisingly was promoted ahead of star batsmen Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh that was just too much.
Manjrekar also pointed out that Team India is presently facing a technical concern. He commented that batsman should emphasize on playing the slower balls and added that the team, especially Captain Suryakumar Yadav, is struggling against slower deliveries.
India would next face team Zimbabwe on Thursday and team West Indies on Sunday. Presently, three of India’s top batsmen are struggling to make runs; this includes Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh and Tilak Verma.
Social Media Reactions
On social media, netizens were divided with some agreeing with the analogy of Sanjay Manjrekar while some saying that it’s too early to read into the details.
