GT vs SRH IPL 2023: In the 62nd match of IPL 2023, defending champions Gujarat Titans has defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by a margin of 34 runs. With the victory, Gujarat Titans have also become the first team to storm into this year's playoff. The match took place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Aiden opt to field first after winning the toss. Riding on Shubman Gill's knock, GT managed to post 188/9 in 20 overs. In response, SRH tumbled completely in the chase and could muster 154/9 runs in 20 overs. SRH are now out of the race from reaching playoffs.
SRH batters tumble in chase
Coming in to chase a total of 189 runs, SRH had a poor outing as well as they lost opener Anmolpreet Singh for 5 runs in the first over. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi scored 4 & 1 respectively. Skipper Aiden Markram scored 10 off 10 balls. In the powerplay, the visitors could score just 45 runs while losing 4 wickets. The fifth wicket also came just on the first ball of the seventh over itself.
It appeared as if SRH was never in the chase as they kept on losing wickets from the start itself. Heinrich Klassen, however, took all the limelight with 64 off 44 balls. Sanvir scored 7, Abdul scored 4 while Marco Jensen could score just 3 runs. Bhuvneshwar accompanied Klaasen with 27 off 26 balls. No other batter apart from Klaasen appeared to be in the chase. Shami and Mohit Sharma picked four wickets each and Yash Dayal picked a wicket each as well.
Gill's maiden century and Bhuvi's four wicket over
Earlier, Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bowl first. Opener Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed for a three-ball duck in the first over itself, giving a major and early setback to the home side. However, it was all Shubman Gill's show from thereon as he notched off his first IPL century off 56 balls, hitting 13 boudnaries and a maximum. He formed a 147-run partnership for the second wicket with Sai Sudharshan (47 off 36). They scored 65 runs within the powerplay.
It was the SRH bowling unit that took on from there and completely decimated the batting side. The second wicket fell at 14.1 overs at a score of 147 runs. However, GT batters could not capitalise from thereon as the middle order fell completely. Skipper Hardik Pandya scored 8, David Miller scored 7, Tewatia scored 3, and Shanaka scored 9 runs too. Rashid, Noor, and Shami were then all cleaned for a duck. In total, five players remained on duck.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's last over brought in 2 runs and four wickets, including a team hattrick. He ended his spell with five wickets in four overs while giving 30 runs. Marco (1/39), Farooqi (1/31), and Natarjan (1/34) chipped in as well.
