IPL 2024: Mohammed Shami, who claimed 24 wickets in 7 matches during the ODI World Cup 2023 for India, is not eligible to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, which is scheduled to start in March. News agency PTI has been informed by a source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that this is accurate. Shami will require surgery in the United Kingdom to treat an ankle issue that will prevent him from playing any more.

After finishing the season with 28 wickets for Gujarat Titans (GT), a pacer the team purchased for Rs. 6.25 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Shami was the league’s top wicket-taker in the Twenty23 IPL. “Shami was in London in last week of January to take special ankle injections and he was told that after three weeks, he can start light running and take it from thereon,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
“But the injection hasn’t worked and now the only option left is surgery. He will shortly leave for UK for surgery. IPL seems out of question,” the source added.

It’s important to remember that Shami participated in the 2023 ODI World Cup while suffering. Even though he struggled with his landing throughout his run-up, he was crucial to India’s undefeated journey to the championship match in India.

Shami’s exclusion from the IPL, according to a PTI report, casts doubt on the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) quick rehabilitation scheme. He would be out of much of the cricket action this year, including the T20 World Cup 2024, due to surgery and a few months of recovery.
