ICC ODI Rankings: In a notable development in the world of cricket, Shubman Gill has secured the top position in the men’s ODI batting rankings, surpassing Babar Azam. The ODI bowling rankings have taken on a distinctly Indian character, with Kuldeep Yadav now among the top five, and Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami within the top ten as well. Furthermore, Virat Kohli has made an impressive ascent in the batting rankings, moving up three spots to occupy the fourth position, just one rating point behind Quinton de Kock, who is the leading run-scorer at the ongoing World Cup.

Shubman Gill’s remarkable performance in ODI cricket this year has been a key factor in his rise to the top of the batting rankings

He has accumulated 1449 runs from 26 matches, including four centuries, which also includes a double-century. His year’s average stands at an outstanding 63.00, compared to his overall career average of 61.02. Despite a slow start at the World Cup due to a bout of dengue, Gill has managed to amass 219 runs in six innings, including fifties against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Babar Azam, though not far behind, wasn’t able to retain his top spot in the rankings despite his commendable World Cup performance, featuring four half-centuries in eight innings.

Shubman Gill’s achievement marks the fourth instance of an Indian cricketer topping the ICC rankings for ODI batters, joining the ranks of legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

The World Cup has witnessed some outstanding individual performances, notably Glenn Maxwell’s superhuman double-century, which propelled Australia into the semi-finals. This exceptional performance has elevated Maxwell to the sixth position in the rankings. Additionally, Ibrahim Zadran, who also achieved a century in the tournament, has climbed six spots to the 12th position. Fakhar Zaman, another significant contributor to his team’s success, is just outside the top ten for batters, currently ranking 11th, after moving up three positions.
