Pakistan slips in ICC Ranking

On Friday, Pakistan made history in ODI cricket by claiming the top spot for the first time in their history. They achieved this remarkable feat by defeating New Zealand by 102 runs in the 4th ODI. In doing so, they surpassed both India and Australia to secure the coveted number one position.

Nevertheless, Pakistan’s hopes of maintaining their No. 1 position were dashed as they suffered a 47-run loss to New Zealand in the final match of the series on Sunday. Consequently, they slipped down to the No. 3 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings. Australia now occupies the top spot with 113 points, closely followed by India at No. 2, also with 113 points. Pakistan currently holds the No. 3 position with 112 points, intensifying the competition for the top spot in this crucial year leading up to the ODI World Cup.

Babar Azam speaks on the defeat

Speaking on the loss in the last match, “It was a brilliant series, but didn’t finish it the way we wanted. We didn’t do well with the bat at the top and Agha and Iftikhar got a good partnership but we left too many runs for them.” In the match on Sunday, New Zealand won the coin toss and chose to bat first, setting a challenging target of 299 runs in 49.3 overs. In response, Pakistan failed to chase the target and lost by 47 runs. However, Pakistan won the series by 4-1.
