ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The New Zealand team is in huge trouble now. Not only they have lost three consecutive matches, but they now have also lost their premier pacer in the form of Matt Henry.
Matt Henry is one of the best pacers in the world right now. He pulled a hamstring during the match against South Africa and was subbed out of the game. It added to the long list of injured players that Kiwis are dealing with right now.
Other than Matt Henry, Kane Williamson has not been able to play because of a thumb injury. Mark Chapman is dealing with a calf injury, Lockie Ferguson is suffering from Achilles and James Neesham has a wrist injury. Things were so bad that the Kiwis only had 11 fit players against South Africa.
Matt Henry Ruled Out Of ICC ODI World Cup 2023
According to New Zealand head coach Gary Stead “Matt’s been a crucial part of our one-day side for a long time and to see him ruled out as we reach the business end of this tournament is immensely disappointing.”
“He’s consistently been ranked inside the ICC top 10 ODI bowlers for the past few years which is a testament to his class and skills. Moreover, Matt’s a great team man and we’re all going to miss his personality and experience.”
Replacement Announced
The good thing is that the Kiwis have already announced the replacement for Matt Henry. Kyle Jamieson has been confirmed as his replacement and the New Zealand coach is happy with that.
“We’re fortunate to have a player of the class of Kyle waiting in the wings. His skills and physical attributes always make him a threat with the ball. It’s a bonus he was able to train with us in the first two weeks of the tournament.
