ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The need to address the increase in air pollution in Delhi and Mumbai is alarming. It looks like the BCCI also knows that and that is why they are taking a brilliant step towards that.

Fireworks have been a huge part of this ongoing World Cup so far. After all, this is the biggest celebration of cricket, and what better way to celebrate a victory than fireworks?

But it looks like the fans in Mumbai and Delhi will not be able to see those fireworks anytime soon now. BCCI’s honorary secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that there will be no fireworks at Wankhede and Arun Jaitley Stadium in the coming matches.

Environmental Concerns

According to Jay Shah, the match between India and Sri Lanka will not feature any type of fireworks. The future matches of Delhi will also be without the fireworks celebrations. The decision came amidst the depletion in air quality in both these cities.

“BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level. The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront,” says BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also showed his concerns over the air pollution in Mumbai. He has reached Mumbai alongside the team for their next match. The skipper shared a story on Instagram depicting the concerning level of air pollution in Mumbai.
