ICC Rankings: Team India has become the top-ranked team in all three formats of cricket, namely Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, after a significant win over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. They now have 115 points in Test matches, while Australia is in the second position with 111 points and England in third with 106 points.
India claims top spot across formats
In addition, India’s spin duo, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, saw a significant improvement in their rankings after taking a total of 15 wickets in the Test match. Ashwin is now close to becoming the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket, only 21 rating points behind the current number 1 ranked bowler, Australia’s Pat Cummins. Meanwhile, Jadeja also moved up in the rankings after his five-wicket haul in the first innings and half-century in the match.
India captain Rohit Sharma’s ranking also rose after he scored a superb hundred under challenging conditions in Nagpur, moving from the tenth position to the eighth position in the batting rankings. Furthermore, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) official website reported that West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie has jumped 77 places in the rankings after taking 19 wickets in two Test matches against Zimbabwe, currently placing him at 46th place after only three Test matches.
Australia looking to bounce back
Regarding the Test team rankings, Australia will aim to recover with three remaining Test matches in the series. However, the hosts will also try to maintain their momentum and win the series with as large a margin as possible. The outcome of the series will be critical in determining the World Test Championship final of the second season.
