ICC Rankings: The ICC Rankings in this Ashes 2023 series have been playing a strange game. After the first game, the rankings took a huge shuffle. Joe Root climbed to the number 1 spot while Smith dropped down to the sixth.
And there has been another huge reshuffle in the ICC rankings after the second test. In the second Aus Vs Eng Ashes 2023 test, Steve Smith scored a brilliant century while Joe Root had a rare off day in both innings.
And the result was completely visible in the updated ICC Rankings as well. While Joe Root dropped down to fifth position. Babar Azam also dropped out of the top 5 rankings for the first time in almost a year.
ICC Rankings: Williamson On Top
Even after being out of action for several months, Kane Williamson grasped the top spot in ICC Men’s Test Ranking after 2 years. Williamson was at the top of the ranking last time in April 2021. Since then he has constantly been in the top 5.
Marnus Labushagne and Travis Head maintained their third and fourth ranking simultaneously. Usman Khawaja failed to make it to the top 5 yet again even after his brilliant performances in both matches. Rishabh Pant still remained the highest-ranking Indian batsman.
Ashwin Still At Top
While the batting chart keeps fluctuating, bowling rankings are quite stale. Ravichandran Ashwin still remained at the top by a country mile. Pat Cummings replaced James Anderson in the second position after some impressive performances in Ashes 2023.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are also in the top 10 bowlers from India. Nathan Lyon dropped down one position to the seventh and considering he is out of the series, he might fall down even more.
