ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Australia have finally announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming tournament. There are some big names missing from this side as the Australian Cricket Board has selected a fairly young squad.

Mitchell Marsh will captain this side as Pat Cummins himself sidelined himself from captaincy in the shortest format of the game. Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Cameron Green, who are balling out in IPL 2024, make the squad.

The biggest snub from the squad has to be Steve Smith and Jake Fraser McGurk. McGurk is in the form of his life in IPL 2024. He is dismantling every bowling attack, so his not being in the squad is quite a surprise.

A Strong Side For ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

It is a very all-rounder-heavy team as we have seen from previous Australian squads. The inclusion of David Warner instead of Jake Fraser McGurk might be the only selection that will raise questions among the fans.

Mitchell Starc, even after his underwhelming performances in IPL 2024 makes the squad. He will form the pace lineup alongside Josh Hazlewood. Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar will form the spin battery for the team.

Steve Smith Part Of The Conversation

Australian chief selector George Bailey stated “Steve Smith, Matt Short, Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett were all part of long conversations. Along with several others, including Jake Fraser-McGurk. He is yet to play T20 International cricket but continues to impress and is developing rapidly.”
