IMD Predicts More Showers, IPL 2023 Final Faces Uncertainty

IPL 2023

IPL 2023: Rain in Ahmedabad prevented even the toss from happening on Sunday (May 28), forcing the 2023 Indian Premier League championship to be played on a reserve day. The Gujarat Titans want to join the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings as the third teams in league history to successfully defend their titles. The Chennai Super Kings are going for a record-tying fifth league championship.

IMD Forecasts Continued Rainfall in Gujarat, Raises Concerns for Local Districts

IMD has projected more downpours in several regions of Gujarat on Monday and Tuesday, one day after the IPL 2023 final was cancelled owing to nonstop rain. Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Panchmahal, and Dahod districts in North Gujarat; Rajkot, Amreli, and Bhavnagar districts in Saurashtra were expected to experience light to moderate rain. The forecast also included lightning and surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph (in gusts).

Rain Delays Gujarat Titans vs. Mumbai Indians Qualifier

Surprisingly, weather also caused the Gujarat Titans vs. Mumbai Indians qualifier to be postponed in Ahmedabad. However, there was just a 30-minute delay in play. Gujarat Titans, who won the season after finishing first in the league phase, would be crowned champions if rains suddenly interfere again on Monday night. The rain started falling in Ahmedabad earlier on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. local time, just 30 minutes before the toss, and it continued for at least the following 2.5 hours.
