IND vs AUS: Australia has defeated India by 21 runs in the third and final match of the ODI series. After losing the test series by 2-1, they bounced back in the shorter format and took home the ODI trophy by 2-1. Kangaroos batted first after winning the toss and amassed 269 runs and restricted Men in Blue to 248 in 49.1 overs, thus winning the match. Virat Kohli scored 54 runs but the regular fall of wickets ensured the Aussies a smooth victory. India had won the first match of the series by 5 wickets while Australia won the second match by 10 wickets.
India and Australia will now take on each other in the WTC final on 7th June in London. Also, the 16th season of the Indian Premier League will be beginning on the 31st of March.
Indian batters fall short in chase
Coming to chase, the Indian team once looked very close to winning but none of the batters could capitalise it. Once again, Virat Kohli was the leading run-scorer for the team with 54 off 72 balls. Hardik Pandya too scored 40 runs off 40 balls, but, after their dismissals, all the hopes were shattered. Shubman Gill scored 37, while KL Rahul scored 32 and captain Rohit Sharma scored 30 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for a golden duck for the third time in a row, making him the first Indian batter to achieve this unwanted record. He failed to score even a single run in the series as he has dismissed on the first ball of the match every time. Ravindra Jadeja scored 18 off 33 in the end. Adam Zampa grabbed four wickets while Ashton Agar took two, and Sean Abbott and Stoinis also picked one.
‘Team’ performance by Australians
Earlier, the Australian team batter first after winning the toss. No player could score a fifty as Indian bowlers regularly took the wickets. Mitchell Marsh was the top scorer with 47 runs off 47 balls whereas skipper Steven Smith was dismissed for a duck on three balls by Hardik Pandya. Alex Carey was the second-highest scorer with 38 off 46, whereas Travis Head scored 33 off 31.
Apart from them, Labuschagne scored 28, Abott scored 26 and Stoinis scored 25 runs. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a three-wicket haul whereas Siraj and Axar grabbed a couple of wickets.
