IND vs NEP Asia Cup 2023: Rain Threat Looms Once Again at Pallekele, Another Washout on Cards?

The upcoming India vs. Nepal match in the Asia Cup 2023 will mark the third game to be hosted at the Pallekele Stadium. The first match on August 31 concluded with Sri Lanka emerging victorious, while the second match between India and Pakistan on September 2 was abandoned due to rain.

IND vs NEP Asia Cup 2023: Once again, rain threatens to interfere with the India vs. Nepal match in the Asia Cup 2023, reminiscent of the weather troubles during the India vs. Pakistan clash on September 2. This situation could see India advancing to the Super Fours without a win while Nepal faces elimination from the tournament due to one loss and another likely no-result match.

Rain likely to to lash the IND vs NEP Asia Cup 2023 clash

Much like the IND vs. PAK match, persistent rain and weather disruptions are anticipated at Pallekele, with weather.com indicating a high probability of rainfall ranging over 60% from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 4. Additionally, the day is forecasted to be exceptionally humid, with humidity levels reaching 88% throughout the day. Thundershowers, characterised by rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, are expected during the match. The temperature is projected to range between 21°C and 27°C throughout the day.

The cloudy and overcast conditions are expected to favour the pacers during the initial 10 overs, similar to the IND vs. PAK match. However, as the ball becomes wet, handling spinners should become more manageable. Nonetheless, the moisture on the pitch could pose challenges for spinners seeking grip and turn. India holds the third position in the latest ICC ODI team rankings, whereas Nepal is placed at the 15th spot.

Over the past week, the weather conditions in Pallekele have not been conducive to cricket. The only match hosted by Pallekele, the India vs. Pakistan clash, was washed out, albeit the first innings took place. However, the upcoming India vs. Nepal match is highly uncertain due to an 80 percent chance of rain on September 4, the scheduled day of the game. According to Accuweather, continuous rainfall is expected throughout the day in Pallekele, which could impact the commencement of the India vs. Nepal match. The toss may also be delayed, and intermittent rain interruptions during the game could be anticipated.

What if rain washes the IND vs NEP match?

If the India vs. Nepal match is also affected by rain and ends without a result, both teams will receive one point each. Pakistan has already secured qualification for the World Cup. If India and Nepal share a point due to rain, India will progress to the Super 4s, while Nepal will be eliminated. Nepal had previously suffered a 238-run defeat to Pakistan in their first match. India currently holds one point, earned through the rain-affected India vs. Pakistan encounter in Pallekele.
