The openers’ of the Sri Lanka team had a huge responsibility as they were chasing a target of 359 runs. But they got the worst possible start they could have gotten as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took the ball.
The expectations were high for these two and considering how well they performed against the Lankans during Asia Cup 2023 everyone knew something wild would come. And when it came no one expected it.
On The First Ball
The crowd was shouting at the top of their lungs as Bumrah marked his run-up. The chants of “Boom Boom” engulfed the crowd before getting quiet as the bowler started his run-up. But they will get the chance to shout once again.
The Wankhede crowd was shouting as soon as the first delivery was bowled as the Men In Blues were appealing for a runout. The umpire lifts his finger as a defeating sound indicates that Bumrah has given India the best possible start.

After that, it was Siraj’s turn to keep the momentum going and he started right from where he left off a month ago. He also struck on his first delivery as Karunaratne had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
He was not done as he sent Samarawickrama back to the dugout on the fifth delivery of that over only. It was skipper Rohit Sharma who took an extra slip fielder and the ball went right to him.
Siraj came back into the attack in the 4th over and clean-bowled the Sri Lankan skipper on the first delivery. Mendis had no clue what happened and stood there like a person with no emotion.
