India Women vs Australia Women : Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh shine and power India to series equalizer after thrilling Super Over

India defeated Australia in the second Women’s T20I on Sunday, tying the five-match series. However, the hosts were put under strain because the game lasted all the way to the Super Over. It also ended Australia’s unblemished performance in the WT20Is in 2022.

Alyssa Healey and Beth Mooney’s 29 run opening wicket stand helped Australia, who were put into bat first, got off to a flying start.

Deepti Sharma gave India the first break, she got rid of Healey who had struck 25 runs, studded with five fours and it looked like she would run away with the game. Her wicket in the Australian innings, turned out to be the Women in Blues lone happy moment.

Beth Mooney and Tahila McGrath’s 16.3 over unbroken partnership allowed Australia to post a mammoth  187 runs for the loss of just one wicket. This was the second-highest WT20I score England had against India in 2018.

Australia posts mammoth 187 runs and India overhauls it in the Superover

Australia’s innings was propelled by Mooney, the series’ leading run scorer, who scored an unbeaten 54-ball total of 82 with the aid of 13 fours. McGrath, who sped to 70 runs off 51 balls with 10 fours and 1 six, provided her the company.

Deepti was India’s best bowler in the game; she took 1 wicket and concede 31 runs. Devika Vaidya had the a poor day in the office and conceded 32 runs.

India started the powerplay off with a spirited 55 runs that set the stage for a strong start in the run chase. Shefali Verma appeared ready to make a big score as she raced to 34 runs off of 23 balls, but was adventurous in her strokeplay and her wicket was taken by Alana King.

In her debut, Heather Graham took the wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues with a precise line and length delivery. However, Harmanpreet and Smriti Mandhana added 61 runs for the third wicket and batted sensibly through a well-placed innings to allow India to surpass the total set by the Australians.
