Indian Batting Coach Hails Ajinkya Rahane As a Masterful Player; Defends Shubman Gill Amidst Bad Performances; Read Here

Indian batting coach talked to the press after first test against West Indies and talked about Ajinkya Rahane, Gill and Kohli performances.

Ajnikya Rahane: Indian team is in a transition period right now. They are struggling to find the right batting combination and are experimenting. One of that experiments was to open with Yashaswi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to come down the order. Ajinkya Rahane becoming the vice-captain once again was also a part of that.

While, Jaiswal passed the test with flying colors, scoring 171 runs in his debut. Shubman Gill looked perplexed in the one-down position. Only being able to score 6 runs in 11 deliveries before getting dismissed.

Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour talked to the reporters after the first match about this failure and also about the importance of Rahane. Rathour also touched on the topic of Virat Kohli and his performances.

Not a Failure

Rathour stated as three openers were supposed to play in the match one of them had to go down the order. And Shubman himself gave the proposal of batting at number 3rd. And it was a huge and welcome suggestion from the youngster.

The batting coach further stated that “We can’t judge him on the basis of one innings. He has a lot of time. He has the technique and temperament to play time if required and can also play an attacking game when a move-on is needed.”

While talking about Ajinkya Rahane, Rathour stated “Ajinkya Rahane played really well in the WTC final. He has always been a good player. We hope he will do well in South Africa. You will need somebody like him to come good”.

His Century Will Come

Virat Kohli missed on his 76th career century after he was dismissed against West Indies for 76 runs. The batting coach said that he batted positively and really well. And he can adapt the game really well.

“The way he defended against left-arm spinners was a lesson for many many youngsters on how to play when the ball goes away from you. The way he defended and played his innings was extremely good to watch. With the approach he is batting, he will surely score a 100.”
