IPL 2020: Garg, Abhishek read conditions better, says SRH captain David Warner

Chennai Super Kings suffered their third straight loss in this year’s IPL as they felt 7 runs short of the target set by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is the first time in the past 6 years that CSK lost three consecutive games in IPL.

Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 164 runs. Youngster Priyam Garg was the leading run-scorer from Hyderabad, scoring a quickfire 51 in just 26 balls.

CSK’s chase never really took off and were reduced to 42 for 4. MS Dhoni, and Ravindra Jadeja brought CSK back in the latter half of the game but they remained far away from a win. MS Dhoni scored 47 runs after struggling in the initial half while Ravindra Jadeja scored 50 runs in 35 balls. Rashid Khan was the star bowler from the Hyderabad, giving away just 12 runs in his four overs.

David Warner, captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad praised Indian U-19 star Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma for their contribution on Friday against Chennai Super Kings. They pair put up 77 runs partnership for the fifth wicket which helped steady a faltering SRH innings to get a boost and reach till 164 runs.

“It was nice to see our guys back themselves – that was my message to these youngsters,” said Warner in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I said it in my press conference – when these guys don’t get opportunity to bat, it’s going to be difficult for them. I asked them what they thought was a good total, they said 150, we got 160-170. These guys assessed the conditions and played well, so really really proud of them,” he added.

Garg scored his first half-century of IPL his career.

“I felt very good in there, because it’s a big stage with senior players. I wasn’t thinking too much, just playing my natural game,” said Garg.

Garg only failed to perform in the first three games. “I think the best thing is the team management backed me after I failed in the first game,” he added.

“The plan was to play my shots and their bowling helped. I’ve batted with Abhishek throughout my childhood so it was easy. There’s a positive energy in the field too after such an innings. My self-belief has grown after the knock,” said the youngster.
