When Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers participated in a bidding war for England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes, the price rose from the initial Rs 2 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants entered the bidding as Royals withdrew. Stokes was finally snatched up by CSK with 16.25 crore.
Stokes was a good all-arounder and captaincy option, so Chennai did well to select him. Sam Curran, who was purchased by Punjab Kings for a staggering Rs 18.50 crore, the highest auction purchase in IPL history, was lost to them.

Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal were acquired earlier by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a combined total of Rs 13.25 and Rs 8.25 crore.

Stokes, who has played two great knocks to lead England to World Cup victories in both the 50-over and 20-over formats, is renowned for maintaining his composure under pressure. Fans anticipate MS Dhoni, who is anticipated to play his final season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023, will hand over the reigns to Ben Stokes.
With a budget of Rs 20.45 crore, CSK entered the IPL 2023 auction. Two of the seven berths were available for the Chennai franchise, which was led by former India captain MS Dhoni. After purchasing Stokes and Rahane, they have now spent Rs 16.75 crore, leaving Rs 3.7 crore in their purse.
