IPL 2024: The relationship between Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians is tense at the moment. After getting removed from the captaincy, everyone thought Rohit would be able to perform more freely.
That was true for the first few matches where Hitman even got a century to his name. But for the last 6 innings, Rohit has not been able to perform. He has not even touched a double-digit score in his last 5 innings.
With all this drama, Mumbai Indians will likely be without its former skipper next season. Either the franchise will look for a new opener or the Indian skipper might himself leave the team to be in different and a more relaxed environment.
Wasim Akram Supports Rohit
Wasim Akram supported Rohit Sharma and criticized Mumbai Indians earlier in the season for the way he was removed from captaincy. He was highly displeased with the way the MI management handled things.
Wasim Akram once again came out and stated his opinion on all the drama. He thinks that Hitman will not be part of the MI club next year. Not only that, he also gave the name of the club he would like Rohit to be in.
Former Pakistan skipper stated “I have a feeling, he won’t be at Mumbai Indians next season. I would love to see him at KKR. Imagine him open there, Gauti as a mentor, Iyer as a captain. They will have a very strong batting, at that wicket (Eden Gardens). He bats very well on any wicket, he is that great a player. But it will be good to see him at KKR.”
IPL 2024: A Bad Year
It has been a bad year for Mumbai Indians so far. They are practically knocked out of the tournament and are sitting at the bottom of the table. The decision to make Hardik Pandya the captain has not worked out at all.
Moreover, the form of Rohit Sharma is not only a concern for MI but for the Indian team as well. Rohit is set to lead the Indian team in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. We hope he gets out of this rut and we get to see vintage Rohit Sharma in the World Cup.
