A night of celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans turned tragic on Wednesday when a deadly stampede broke out near M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Seven people (including a child) died, and dozens were injured. The victims were rushed to Bowring Hospital for urgent care.
Thousands had gathered to celebrate RCB’s first-ever IPL title after their thrilling win against Punjab Kings on Tuesday night at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. For Virat Kohli, the team’s long-time star, this victory marked the end of an 18-year wait.
Stampede During RCB's Victory Parade
Fans cheered loudly outside the stadium, with fireworks lighting up the sky. The Karnataka State Cricket Association organised a special ceremony to honour the winning team. The players were also scheduled to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before heading to the stadium for a fan event.
However, the crowd soon became overwhelming. Videos shared on social media showed Karnataka Police struggling to manage the growing throng. Officials used mild force to control the situation, but the crowd surged, triggering the deadly stampede. More than 25 people were hurt, with six in critical condition.

We are all celebrating RCB's victory. More than 20 fans have already fallen ill due to stampede and crowding during the celebrations in Bengaluru, so the government should take appropriate safety measures. pic.twitter.com/CfYTg5mNxC

Crowd Control Issues Delay RCB IPL 2025 Victory Parade
The eagerly awaited open-top bus parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium faces uncertainty. Bengaluru Traffic Police warned that heavy traffic and bad weather could force its cancellation. The rain and large crowds after the IPL final have made crowd control a major challenge.
The RCB team’s open-top bus remains parked near the Chief Minister’s office, waiting for Siddaramaiah’s approval. If the parade gets the go-ahead, it will proceed, but public safety is the main concern.
Karnataka BJP Blames Congress, Calls It Criminal Negligence
The Karnataka BJP has criticised the state government over the tragic stampede. In a post on X, the party blamed the Congress government for the deaths. They wrote, “Seven dead. Many are battling for their lives after a stampede caused by the irresponsibility of the Congress government. No crowd control measures. No basic arrangements. Just chaos."
