IPL Auction 2023: The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2023 is taking place in Kochi on Friday, December 23, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and the entire globe will be watching it today. The auction is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM IST, and all 10 franchises have arrived in Kochi, along with the auctioneer Hugh Edmeads.

Since the IPL is the most lucrative T20 competition in the world, its players have received some of the biggest salaries in the globe. The IPL’s prize money is the highest ever among all leagues in the globe, and the finest players in the world play here.

The most expensive selections in IPL Auctions

The most expensive selection when the IPL first made headlines was current Chennai Super Kings mainstay and former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who signed a hefty deal of Rs 6 crore. The amount that the highest paid players have received annually has increased ever since.

At Rs 7.55 crore each, Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff received the highest player salaries in 2009. The top offers for the following year’s Shane Bond and Kieron Pollard of the Mumbai Indians were Rs 3.42 crore. In 2011, Gautam Gambhir earned Rs 11.4 crore, making him the most expensive player in India. In 2012, Ravindra Jadeja joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for an astounding Rs 9.72 crore.

Glen Maxwell received a whopping Rs 5.3 crore bid in 2013, Yuvraj Singh became the most expensive Indian choice in 2014 at Rs 14 crore, then broke his own record the following year by going to Delhi Capitals for Rs 16 crore.

Ishan Kishan raked in more than 15 cr last season

Prior to Ben Stokes’ arrival to the Rajasthan Royals in 2017 and his astonishing 14.5 crore salary shattering all previous records, Shane Watson momentarily held the title of the highest-paid overseas pick in 2016 after earning an enormous 9.5 crore.

Prior to Jaydev Unadkat and Varun Chakravarthy both fetching Rs 8.4 crore in the IPL auction in 2019, Stokes again became the player with the highest price tag in the auction in 2018 at 12.5 crores. Ishan Kishan became one of the most expensive Indian players last year after receiving a whopping price of Rs 15.25 crore from Mumbai Indians.
