Ishan Kishan Refuses To Play In Duleep Trophy: Just a month away from the West Indies tour, Ishan Kishan has opted out of playing Duleep Trophy 2023. The Duleep trophy has always been a golden opportunity for youngsters to prove themselves.
And for Ishan Kishan, this was the perfect stage to cement his place in the Indian test team until the return of Rishabh Pant. After regular underwhelming performances by KS Bharat in whites for India, Ishan Kishan was the sole contender for Wicket-Keeper batsman for ICT in the game’s longest format.

No reason given
The biggest shock is that Ishan Kishan did not give any reason not to play in the Duleep Trophy. When KS Bharat was selected in the playing XI for the WTC 2023 final, the regional selector, Debashish Chakraborty, asked for permission to select Ishan for the East Zone team.
On a phone call with Chakraborty, Ishan stated that he does not want to play Duleep Trophy. No reason was given. Ishan Kishan was the strongest contender for the captaincy of East Zone. He would have been the player with the most International caps.
Ishan Kishan can be thinking about his fitness and wants to rest before the West Indies series to perform to his full extent. But on the other hand, it can be a very bad decision. With a team as unstable as India currently, anyone can be replaced at any moment. That is why you should not leave any chance to prove yourself.
Saha also refused to take part
After Ishan Kishan refused, Tripura selector Jayanta Dey approached Wriddhiman Saha for the role of Wicket Keeper for East Zone. But in an act of pure bliss, Saha denied it.
Saha stated that Duleep Trophy is for Indian hopefuls. And if he is never going to play for India again, he does not want to hoard the place from a youngster who can impress the selectors. Abhishek Porel was selected as the Wicket-Keeper for East Zone after that.
