Legendary footballer Pele passed away after a prolong battle with cancer. A look at his records

Legendary Brazil footballer Pele has passed away at the age of 82 on Thursday. Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” daughter Kely Nascimento wrote on Instagram.

The football giant was battling with colon cancer and was admitted in a hospital for a respiratory problem on November 29.

Unbreakable record

Pele is the only player in football history to win the FIFA World Cup thrice.

Born on October 23, 1940, at Tres Corocoes, Pele gained popularity after playing an important role in Brazil’s maiden FIFA World Cup in 1958.

A look at Pele’s career

1. Only player to win three World Cup titles with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

2. Youngest-ever player to win the World Cup trophy at 17, a record that still stands.

3. Scored 757 goals in 812 official matches for club and country, a record that stood for decades. Now Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo broke his record.

4. Brazil’s football association and Santos say Pele scored a total of 1,283 goals in 1,367 matches while FIFA puts the figure at 1,281 goals in 1,366 games.

5. Scored 12 goals in World Cups.

6. Scored 92 hat-tricks across official and unofficial games.

7. Scored 127 goals for Santos in 1959- the most goals scored by a club player in one calendar year.
