LPL 2022: Ball hits star all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne straight on face, what happens next is scary | Watch video

LPL 2022: Chamika Karunaratne, an all-rounder for Sri Lanka, suffered numerous front tooth losses while catching a ball in the current Lanka Premier League match in Hambantota. Karunaratne was trying to take the catch in LPL 2022 on Wednesday when the ball struck him in the face, seriously injuring him.

After suffering the terrible injury, the 26-year-old was carried off the field and hurried to the hospital for treatment. However, in the later stages of the tournament, Karunaratne is probably going to come back onto the field.

Ball hits Chamika's face during LPL 2022 match

Nuwanidu Fernando was at the crease during the fourth over of the innings and was attempting to knock a wide-length ball off of Carlos Brathwaite's bowling over the cover when the incident happened. Fernando, on the other hand, missed his shot and it went straight up in the air because of his poor timing. Kandy Falcons player Karunaratne made the catch despite running behind from point.

Karunaratne was cut open by the ball, who struck him in the face. The Sri Lankan great held onto the grab while being in terrible pain before passing it to a teammate. He was taken off the field right away by the team doctor, who then transported him to the hospital for surgery. Due to the ball striking his face directly, Karunaratne is believed to have lost a number of his front teeth.

A video of the incident has gained a lot of online popularity. In 57 games across all formats, Karunaratne has played for Sri Lanka, taking 38 wickets and scoring one half-century. As a member of the T20 World Cup team that was eliminated at the Super 12 stage while in Australia, he was given a suspended one-year ban for a disciplinary offence.
