Manchester United: The circumstances surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United took an abrupt turn on Thursday when the team revealed in an official statement that the Portuguese icon won’t be playing against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

The club’s brief official statement offered no justification for this decision. “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture,” the statement read.

The Portuguese international is rumoured to have refused to be used as a substitute in United’s midweek match against Tottenham, and it is now anticipated that he will be required to train alone. Ronaldo, who came off the bench for the home team against Tottenham, was spotted leaving the field before the referee had even blown the final horn.

Erik Ten Hag, the manager of United, had said following the game that he will address the Ronaldo problem on Thursday.  “I don’t pay attention today, we will deal with that tomorrow,” he said. “I want to focus on this team, on these 11 players.
