MI vs CSK IPL 2023: Chennai’s Super Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by 6 Wickets, Show All-Round Performance in Clinical victory

MI vs CSK IPL 2023: In the 49th match of IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings have defeated Mumbai Indians by a margin of six wickets at Chepauk, Chennai. This also marks the first victory of CSK against Mumbai in Chepauk for the first time in the last 5 matches. MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first. They were quite successful in their decision as they restricted Mumbai to a score of 139/8 in 20 overs. In response, the home team managed to chase down the target with ease as they scored 140/3 in 17.3 overs. They have now reached the number two spot in the points table.

CSK chases the target with ease

Coming to chase a total of 140, Chennai had a blistering start as they managed to score 46 without any loss in 4 overs. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 30 off 16, hitting four boundaries and two maximums. Ajinkya Rahane scored 21 off 17. Impact player Ambati Rayudu did not have a good day on the field and was once again dismissed for a low score (12 off 11 balls).

Devon Conway scored 44 off 42 balls, hitting four boundaries and took his team across the victory line. Shivam Dube played a small cameo of 26* runs in 18 balls. MS Dhoni came in to bat while 10 runs were required off 21 balls. He then scored 2* off 3 balls. Piyush Chawla grabbed a couple of wickets while Tristan Stubbs and Akash picked a wicket each.

Nehal Wadhera’s valiant knock

Earlier, CSK won the toss and opt to bowl first. Their decision was rather successful as they managed to grab three wickets before the end of the third over itself. Cameron Green was promoted as an opener today but he was dismissed for a score of 6 runs in 4 balls. Ishan Kishan followed him soon with a score of 7 runs in 9 balls. Skipper Rohit Sharma departed in the same over for a three-ball duck, marking his second consecutive this season.

However, Suryakumar Yadav then stabilised the innings with his valiant 26 off 22 balls. Nehal Wadhera stepped up and took on his chance by scoring the only fifty from innings – 64 off 51 balls, hitting 8 boundaries and a six. Stubbs accompanied him well with 20 runs off 21 balls. Tim David scored 2 runs. In the powerplay, the team managed to score just 34 runs while losing 3 wickets. At one moment, their scorecard read 14/3.

Matheesha Pathirana grabbed a three-wicket haul while Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande also picked a wicket each. Ravindra Jadeja also scalped a wicket in his spell.
