MI vs DC WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals THUMP DOWN Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets with 66 balls to spare, two back-to-back defeats

MI vs DC WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals have defeated the table toppers Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets and 11 overs to spare in the 18th match of the Women’s Premier League that took place at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Earlier, MI faced a batting collapse as they scored just 108 runs. The target proved to be too easy for DC, who managed to chase it down within 9 overs with a loss of just one wicket. This is the second consecutive defeat for the table toppers, who were expecting an easy spot in the finals.

Mumbai Indians’ batting collapse

Earlier, Mumbai Indians batted first and saw a massive collapse from the start itself as they struggled to score 109/8 in 20 overs. The top order completely failed in the match, Yastika scored 1, Hayley Matthews scored 5 while Sciver was bowled out on a duck. In the powerplay, they could manage just 19 runs with 3 wicket loss. After nine overs, their score stood at 29 runs with 4 wicket loss.

Pooja Vastrakar remained the highest run-scorer with 26 off 19 balls, Harmanpreet Kaur and Issy Wong managed to score 23 runs each. Amanjot Kaur also played a brave knock of 19 off 16, taking her team to a respectable total. Marizanne Kapp, Jonassen, and Shikha Pandey grabbed a couple of wickets each while Arundhati Reddy picked a wicket too.

Delhi Capitals’ blistering innings

Coming to chase an easy target of 109, Delhi Capitals started with aggressive hitting in the match. Shafali Verma played a quick-fire knock of 33 runs off 15 balls, hitting six boundaries and a maximum. Captain Meg Lanning scored 32* off 22 balls, hitting four boundaries and a maximum. Later on, Alice Capsey also joined in with the same momentum and scored 38* off 17 balls, hitting five boundaries. Only Hayley Matthews could pick a wicket in the match as the side chased it down with 66 balls to spare.
