World Athletics Championship 2023: Indian Javelin Star Neeraj Chopra breaks record everywhere he goes. Once again, he has set another record which helped him qualify for the World Athletics Champions 2023 finals and Olympics 2024 as well.
Neeraj broke the record in the qualification round of the Championship on Friday, August 25. India has not won a medal at the World Athletics Championship 2023 yet, but Neeraj's qualification to the final raises some hopes.
Furthermore, the ace Javelin thrower is the only Indian to win a silver medal in this competition. This time around he might want to go even further and bag a gold medal for the country.
New Record Broken
Neeraj recorded an 88.77-meter throw on his very first attempt. A ridiculous throw that was just fingertips away from being fouled off. But Neeraj reclaimed his balance at the last possible second.
The Olympic Gold Medalist was returning from an injury and did the throw effortlessly. His run-up was perfect while the release was as late as it could have possibly been. He knew his throw was good when he opened his arm for the crowd as soon as the javelin left his hand.
This was the 25-year-old star's best-ever throw as he broke his previous record of 88.67 meters that he achieved back in May 2023.
Jan Železný Praising Neeraj
Javelin World Record holder Jan Železný, had previously stated that he thinks that Neeraj Chopra can break his record. Železný holds the record throw at 98.48 meter that he set up in 1996.
He thinks that the Indian star is among the candidates who can break his record. He further stated that the peak for a javelin thrower is around 30 years old. So, if the Indian Olympic gold medalist can stay fit, he can break it.
