New Zealand vs India: Rain gods had final say in 2nd ODI; Gill, Suryakumar’s good starts in vain

The second One Day Internationals between India and New Zealand has been ended in a no result. India won the toss and elected to bat in the game that was important for the visitors to stay in the series. Captain Shikhar Dhawan got out on 3 and later Shubman Gill who scored 45 runs was joined by Suryakumar Yadav in the middle.

Suryakumar and Gill took India’s score to 89/1 with the opener scoring 45 runs while the number three batter getting a good 34 off 25 balls. Then rain gods played a spoilsport which never ended.

Matt Henry was the only wicket for New Zealand in the rain-affected game.

The first match was won by the Blackcaps where they chased down a huge total of 307 runs with wicketkeeper batter Tom Latham scoring 145 runs and skipper Kane Williamson securing a well deserved 94 runs to his name.

Not in our control, you just have to wait. We were waiting to get the game started, can’t help it. Now looking forward to the 3rd game. I was quite surprised with the surface, I thought it would be seaming quite a bit, but it wasn’t as much as the last match. It was good to bat on and to see Shubman perform this way was very encouraging. We wanted the sixth bowler to come in, so Sanju Samson missed out and Hooda came in,” said Dhawan during the post match ceremony.

The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday. New Zealand lead series 1-0.
