Jasprit Bumrah: Amidst the anticipation surrounding the World Cup 2023, Mohammad Kaif, the former Indian cricketer, has given a stern word of caution. The spotlight is on Jasprit Bumrah as he gears up to captain the team in the upcoming T20 series in Ireland. After nearly a year of being in the recovery phase from back surgery, Bumrah is making his comeback to the field, drawing significant attention from the cricketing world.
What did Mohammad Kaif say?
According to Kaif, India’s performance in the World Cup’s knockout matches could be hindered without Bumrah’s presence, similar to the difficulties experienced in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. Despite the popular notion of India having sufficient depth to form multiple teams, Kaif disagrees, particularly concerning the bowling department. He stresses the significance of injured players and their impact on India’s prospects in the upcoming World Cup.
Kaif stated, “Bumrah is now coming back after a long injury lay-off, and we will get an idea of how fit he is.” Continuing further, he said, “India needs a fully fit Bumrah to do well in the World Cup at home.”
Kaif strongly refutes the notion of having two teams in the bowling department, citing past instances like the Asia Cup T20 and the 2022 T20 World Cup where India suffered without Bumrah. He firmly emphasized that India lacks a suitable replacement for him, making his absence a significant setback for the team.
What is the ICC rank of Jasprit Bumrah?
As per the latest rankings, Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the 30th spot in the ODI rankings. He has not played any matches since September 2022 and played a few matches last year. Evidently, this has affected his rankings as he has slipped very below. Jasprit Bumrah continues to remain the main bowler for India despite not being able to play for almost a year. In tests, he currently stands at the 10th spot. Meanwhile, in T20Is he stands at a very low spot of 84th position. Not to forget, that he has been No.1 ranked bowler in limited overs format for months but his injury and not being able to play for a longer time has jolted a negative impact.

Why is Bumrah so good?
Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling action attracted everyone’s attention as he rose on to become one of the most lethal bowlers in the present era. His ability to bowl in variations, such as deadly yorkers, slower balls, and well-disguised bouncers make it difficult for batsmen to attack him. In the limited overs, he has become a death-over specialist and has won several matches for India through tough situations. His success across conditions, and ability to bowl in different formats has made him a spearhead of Indian bowling.
