PBKS vs MI IPL 2023: Sky & Ishan Heroics lead Mumbai to 6 Wicket Victory, Chase Mammoth 215 Runs Seamlessly with 7 balls to spare

PBKS vs MI IPL 2023: In the 46th match of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians has defeated Punjab Kings by a margin of six wickets. The match took place at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bat first. However, riding on Livingstone’s brutal 82* run knock, PBKS managed to score 214/3 in 20 overs. In response, Mumbai Indians lost Rohit in the first over but then managed to build the innings. Sky (66) and Ishan (75) played crucial knocks with Tilak Verma (26* off 10) taking charge in the end. They managed to chase down the target with 7 balls to spare. This is the second back-to-back victory for Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians pull off an Epic chase

In the mammoth chase of 215 runs, Mumbai Indians did not have an ideal start as well as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma for a three-ball duck in the first over itself. He now has joint-most ducks in the history of the tournament – 15. Cameron Green was also dismissed for just 23 off 18 balls on the last ball of the powerplay as MI scored 54/2 in 6 overs. However, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav then stabilised the innings and marched forward.

Ishan scored 75 off 41 balls, hitting seven boundaries and four maximums. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav launched a batting onslaught, scoring 66 off 31 balls, hitting 8 boundaries and two maximums. Due to their batting, MI came down to a required total of 45 runs in 5 overs, which was a massive change in momentum. However, quick dismissals of both of them dented the run rate.

However, Tilak Verma then came into the crease and played a match-winning knock of 26* in 10 balls and won the match for his team. Nathan Ellis grabbed two wickets while Rishi Dhawan and Arshdeep picked a wicket each as well.

Liam Livingstone & Jitesh’s fiery knocks

Earlier, Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first. They showed great control in the start but leaked a bit many runs in the end. Punjab Kings did not have an ideal start as Prabhsimran was dismissed after scoring 9 off 7 balls. Skipper Dhawan was also dismissed soon with a score of 30 runs in 20 balls while Matthew Short scored 27 off 26.

In the powerplay, they scored 50 runs with a loss of one wicket. However, a late flurry ensured that PBKS put on a mammoth total. Jitesh Sharma scored 49* off 27, hitting five boundaries and two maximums. Liam Livingstone was the leading run-scorer with 82* runs off 42 balls, hitting seven boundaries and four maximums. The momentum shifted when Livingstone slammed three consecutive sixes against Archer. Piyush Chawla picked two wickets while Arshad Khan grabbed a wicket as well.
