Sanju Samson fails to capitalise

The batsman’s contributions in the series included scores of 12, 7, and 13 against the West Indies. Throughout the series, Samson occupied the number 5 batting position in two matches, and in one instance, he batted at the number 6 slot. Former cricketer and current pundit Abhishek Nayar shared his perspective on Samson’s batting role, expressing his belief that the team erred in utilizing the wicketkeeper-batsman lower down the middle order.

In both the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket, Sanju Samson typically assumes the batting roles of number 3 or 4. Nayar further emphasised that if the Indian management intends to continue placing Samson in the lower-middle order, there’s also an option available in the form of Rinku Singh. He stated, “I believe if you want to utilise Sanju Samson more, bat him at No. 3 because that is his number. He is used to that and he is successful there, or else don’t play him.”

Continuing further, he said, “If you are going to play him at No. 5 or No. 6, play Rinku Singh instead. If you play Samson in the top three, you will get more out of him because he plays shots in the powerplay and then plays the spinners. So I believe not the right place but he will get opportunities.”
