PM Modi’s Appeal Results in BCCI Losing “Verification” on ‘X’ – Here’s what actually happened

BCCI: Shortly before the commencement of the fifth and final match of the T20I series against West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) saw its blue tick verification removed from its social media account on X. This surprising occurrence led to confusion among fans who were engaged on the platform. Nevertheless, it was subsequently disclosed that the decision taken by the Indian cricket board was a direct outcome of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s distinctive request earlier on Sunday.

How did BCCI lose verification tick

In anticipation of India’s 77th Independence Day on Tuesday, August 15, Prime Minister Modi has urged all fellow citizens to engage in the #HarGharTiranga initiative. This movement advocates for people to update their profile pictures on social media with the Indian tricolor. Prime Minister took the initiative first and changed his DP on the platform.

Taking to Twitter/X PM Modi stated, “In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us.” As per the revised regulations of the social media platform, verified users will forfeit their blue verification badge if they modify their profile picture. Nonetheless, the verification status can be reinstated within a span of three to four days, subsequent to a brief account evaluation process on X.

Interestingly, even though Prime Minister Modi’s account, which represents a government or multilateral organization, changed its profile picture to the Indian flag on Sunday, it did not lose its grey verification badge.

When will BCCI regain the tick?

It is expected that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will regain its blue verification tick prior to the final white-ball assignment of the Indian team before the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, the team is presently gearing up for the fifth and final T20I match against the West Indies, with the goal of achieving a historic series triumph. Subsequent to this, India is scheduled to engage in a three-match T20I series against Ireland, during which Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Hardik.
