Former Indian legendary wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on June 9, Monday. One of the most successful skippers in world cricket, Dhoni led India to win the ODI World Cup after 28 years and is the only Indian captain to win all the major ICC trophies.
Dhoni is the latest Indian inductee in the ICC Hall of Fame and is the 11th Indian player to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame, joining the legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and many more.
MS Dhoni’s Cricketing Heights
MS Dhoni is the first Indian skipper to complete the ICC cabinet by winning all the ICC white-ball trophies. MSD has won almost every major trophy in cricket, like winning the T20I World Cup 2007, the ODI World Cup 2011, the Champions Trophy 2013, the Asia Cup in 2010 and 2016 and the five-time IPL title.
Dhoni was also one of the most decorated players in world cricket as he finished his International career with 17,266 runs and 829 dismissals in 538 matches across all formats. MSD is the first and only Indian captain to win all ICC limited-overs titles.
But no one knows that MS Dhoni won some prestigious Indian awards outside cricket, like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and many more.
MS Dhoni’s Award Beyond Cricket
MSD was honoured with India’s highest sporting award, the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna award, in 2008 after winning the inaugural T20I World Cup. Dhoni’s father received the award on his behalf as Dhoni was serving the Indian team in Sri Lanka for the ODI series at that time.
Former Indian skipper won the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, in 2018, just exactly seven years after hitting the iconic six at the Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni dressed in an army uniform while receiving the Padma Bhushan award.
Dhoni was also honoured with the fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri, in 2009, as he was awarded for his distinguished contributions to Indian cricket, and Dhoni’s leadership has been a substantial influence in Indian cricket.
Other than cricket, Dhoni’s love for the Indian army has been unmatchable. MSD received the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army in 2011.
After winning almost every prestigious award, ICC finally inducted him into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2025. The legendary batter, Dhoni, remains one of the most prolific and beloved cricketers around the globe with his unmatchable fan following.
