PV Sindhu to get 30 lakh cash reward from Andhra CM

According to the State Sports Policy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy authorised officials to award a monetary prize to shuttler PV Sindhu for earning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

As per the State Sports Policy, a bronze medalist is entitled to get Rs 30 lakhs.

Sindhu met with Jagan before leaving for the main event, and the Andhra Pradesh government has also sanctioned two acres of land for setting up a Badminton Academy at Visakhapatnam, with the motive of improving the sports talent in the state.

Sindhu defeated Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15 in the bronze medal match that lasted 52 minutes. Sindhu had earlier returned with a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016.

The 26-year-old is now the second Indian athlete to win two individual Olympic medals. Wrestler Sushil Kumar also has two medals as he returned with a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics 2008 and a silver at the London Olympics 2012.

Earlier, in 2016 after winning silver in the Rio Olympics Andhra Pradesh government announced a slew of rewards, including a cash award of Rs 3 crore, to shuttler PV Sindhu.

The government also announced award of Rs 50 lakh to Ms Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand for mentoring.
