R Praggnanandhaa continued his giant slaying streak as he defeated the defending world champion and kept his championship dream alive.
R Praggnanandhaa is on a roll right now and his giant slaying form continues as he defeated the reigning world champion Dang Liren in a thrilling Armageddon tiebreaker round.
It was an exhausting match for both players as they played a draw in the classical game. Liren is in a bad phase in the ongoing Norway Chess tournament and looks like a shadow of his former self.
He needs to regroup seriously and look at the next World Championship cycle as he is currently in sixth position in Norway.

On the other hand, Pragg is in sensational form and has kept his championship dream alive. He has won two straight matches and two tie-breakers and is on a giant-killing streak.
He currently sits in the third position in the Norway championship with only 2.5 points behind the leader Magnus Carlsen. Hikaru Nakamura is in second position with 12.5 points and the final stretch of the championship looks intense.
The 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster will face Carlsen in a highly anticipated rematch that might even decide the fate of this championship. A win against Carlsen can propel Pragg to the Norway championship.
This championship has been an intense affair so far and there have been lots of exciting matches and upsets so far. Hikaru Nakamura also defeated Magnus Carlsen in the armageddon round.
It is a very close affair as only 2.5 points separates the top 3 contenders. Magnus and Pragg will face each other and that might be the championship-deciding match. On the other hand, Nakamura is just 0.5 points behind Carlsen and a win will secure the championship for him as well.
