RR vs LSG IPL 2023: Kevin Pietersen, a former cricketer of the England team, showed his strong disapproval of KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, for his low strike rate during the powerplay overs. He raised doubts about KL Rahul’s performance in the match against the Rajasthan Royals as he had only scored 19 runs from an equal number of balls post the powerplay overs.

While on-air during the match, Kevin said, “Watching KL Rahul bat in powerplays is the most boring thing I have ever been through.” Despite his slow start in the powerplay overs, KL Rahul managed to score 39 runs from 32 balls with a strike rate of 121.88, which included four boundaries and a maximum. Additionally, he was fortunate to survive two dropped catches by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jason Holder when he was at six and 12 runs, respectively. He also failed to score even a single run in the first over, which was bowled by Trent Boult

KL Rahul’s performance in the current IPL 2023 season has been lackluster, having scored 194 runs in six games with a below-average strike rate of 114.79. Although he played his best innings against the Punjab Kings, scoring 74 runs off 56 balls at a strike rate of 132.14, his team couldn’t win the match.

Comparatively, this is his poorest strike rate since the 2014 and 2015 seasons, where he scored at strike rates of 101.21 and 112.69, respectively. During the previous IPL 2022 season, Rahul had scored 416 runs in 400 balls at a strike rate of 104 in the powerplay overs. However, in IPL 2023, his strike rate in the same phase has been 109.19 so far.
