Sania Mirza falls short of winning her 7th Grand Slam

Sania Mirza was unable to claim her seventh Grand Slam doubles title, but the 36-year-old player put on an impressive display at the Australian Open. This tournament holds special significance for Mirza as it was where she secured her first Grand Slam doubles title in 2009.

14 years after winning the mixed doubles championship with Mahesh Bhupati, Sania offered her another shot, this time pairing her with fellow countryman Rohan Bopanna. The seasoned team failed at the last obstacle, though.

Three women’s doubles championships and the same number of mixed doubles titles were Sania’s final Grand Slam achievements. The top athlete had declared that this would be her final Grand Slam appearance before the competition in Melbourne.
