Sarfaraz Khan: “I was told..” Young gun REVEALS selector Chetan Sharma gave him assurance, details here

Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan: The star performer in Ranji believed his due attention would come in December when the Indian team visits the neighbouring nation for two World Test Championship (WTC) matches. Sarfaraz had been firing runs at Ranji matches for amusement throughout the previous three seasons of India’s top domestic championship.

When the selectors recently met together to choose the squad for the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February-March, the Mumbaikar hadn’t even been selected for the Test squad, thus that interaction with the selectors has drawn attention.

Delaying a call-up that many believe the young player thoroughly deserves following 36 matches and a staggering 3,380 runs at an average of 80.47 at the first-class level.

Sarfaraz Khan has unmatched prowess in the Ranji Trophy, but he hasn’t received the proper India call-up for the upcoming Test matches against Australia in Nagpur and Delhi. Now, the player has admitted that he was promised the same thing for the two Test matches that took place in December.

What did Sarfaraz Khan say on selectors?

Sarafaraz Khan said, “During the Ranji Trophy final at Bangalore, when I scored a century, I met the selectors. I was told that ‘you’ll get your opportunity in Bangladesh. Be ready for that.”

Continuing further he stated, “Recently, I met Chetan Sharma sir (chief selector) while we were checking in at the hotel in Mumbai. He asked me not to feel disheartened, and that my time will come. Good things take time to happen. You’re very close (to an India berth). You’ll get your chance. So, when I played another important knock, I had expectations. But it’s alright.”

After having high hopes for a time, Sarfaraz said it was a moment of immense disappointment for him to realize his name was not included in the Indian team for the Australian test. The 25-year-old, who is now playing for Mumbai in another successful Ranji season, claimed that he didn’t feel better till he contacted his father, who is his closest confidant, and they got down to practising together for a while.
