Shahid Afridi: “ICC wants India to reach semi-finals” Former skipper’s statement fuels the ongoing controversy

Shahid Afridi: Former Pakistani star Shahid Afridi has made a controversial statement in the midst of umpiring-related controversy during the current T20 World Cup in Australia. The International Cricket Council (ICC), according to Afridi, “want to ensure that India reaches semi-finals at any cost”.

The former all-contentious rounder’s remarks follow a dispute over umpire Marais Erasmus’ response to Virat Kohli’s request for a no-ball during the most recent India vs. Pakistan game. After India’s historic victory, certain players, including former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar, said aloud their opinions over the choice.

When India faced Bangladesh in the crucial T20 World Cup Super 12 encounter on Wednesday, Kohli once more successfully appealed a no-ball ruling. Over the allegedly controversial conversation, Kohli and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan were seen exchanging words. A second issue arose when Kohli pretended to throw the ball, which Bangladesh players said was “fake fielding” and should have cost India five runs. The umpires, though, did not find Kohli’s action to be problematic.

Umpires were in favour of India: Afridi

The moist conditions of the ground were allegedly ignored by the umpires despite continuous showers, according to Afridi, who said that India was in a sticky situation and needed the game to be resumed.

These allegations, nevertheless, have not come from official sources. Match referees have not expressed any objections to the controversial judgments made by the umpires. Bangladesh has nonetheless stated that they will bring up the matter with the ICC at the “proper forum.”

India will likely win their Super 12 group when they face Zimbabwe on Sunday in the final game of the round and end as table-toppers.
