Sourav Ganguly: On Sunday in Perth’s pace-friendly conditions, South Africa highlighted the weaknesses in India’s batting. KL Rahul has struggled in each of the first three matches, scoring 4, 9, and 9, raising concerns over whether India should keep him at the top of the order. But according to Sourav Ganguly, one defeat shouldn’t be a cause for panic.
The former captain of India is confident that his country would advance to the World Cup semifinals.
“They have suffered just one defeat so far. One defeat doesn’t mean anything. They are a good side and I believe they will surely bounce back and qualify for the semi-finals,” Sourav, who was present at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s annual general meeting at a city hotel on Monday, told reporters.
“After reaching the semi-finals, it’s about two matches and anything can happen in those games. But yes, India do have a chance of reaching the final as well,” Sourav added.
At the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma and company will face Bangladesh in their fourth match of the tournament. India will advance to the semi-final round with their victory against Bangladesh.
Sourav was questioned regarding whether India should start wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in their next games seeing the failures of KL Rahul. However, Dada responded by saying that, that solely depends upon the team management.
