ICC ODI World Cup 2023

ICC ODI World Cup 2023: On Tuesday, May 9, the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially announced that South Africa has secured the last position for automatic qualification in the 2023 World Cup. A total of eight direct qualification spots were up for grabs in the upcoming quadrennial event, scheduled to take place in India during October-November. The qualifying process relied on the World Cup Super League rankings to determine the eligible teams.

Ireland-Bangladesh Match washed out

In order to secure the last automatic qualifying spot for the World Cup through the ICC ODI Super League, Ireland had to emerge victorious in all three games of the series against South Africa. However, due to rain, the Irish team was unable to complete their response to Bangladesh’s score of 246/9 on Tuesday. As a result, they will now have to participate in the final qualifying matches scheduled for June and July.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. local time, the County Ground in Chelmsford, which serves as the home ground for the English county team Essex, experienced rainfall while Ireland was at a score of 65/3 after 16.3 overs. Prior to the rain interruption, Bangladesh had chosen to bat in seemingly favourable batting conditions. Mushfiqur Rahim played a prominent role, scoring 61 runs off 70 balls, achieving his 44th half-century in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

Ireland faced a turbulent beginning to their innings as they lost both captain Andy Balbirnie (5) and Paul Stirling (15) within a short span of 10 balls by the conclusion of the fifth over. At the time the rain arrived and the covers were brought out, Harry Tector, who had accumulated 21 runs, found himself partnered with Lorcan Tucker, who had scored 2 runs. It was crucial for Ireland to continue batting for a minimum of 20 overs in order to achieve a conclusive outcome.
