T20 World Cup 2022: “India intentionally lost the match” Former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik gives a controversial remark

Saleem Malik: Former captain of Pakistan, Saleem, has said that India purposefully lost to South Africa in order to hinder Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

His remarks were made against the backdrop of India’s five-wicket loss to South Africa in Perth, which essentially ruined Pakistan’s aspirations of making it to the semifinals.“India kabhi nahi chahega Pakistan aage jaaye (India would never want Pakistan to progress),” Mailk stated in a TV interview.

Malik also criticised the fielding of India

Aiden Markram scored his fifty-first run off 38 balls with six fours and a six. During his inning, India missed two opportunities of dismissing him. In the 12th over, Virat Kohli dropped him off Ravichandran Ashwin in the deep, and Sharma then wasted a simple run-out opportunity.

“Agar aaj Indian fielding thodi si behtar karta to match jeet jaate (India could have won the match if they had fielded better). Mera khayal hai sabse disappointing ye tha ki aaj India ne bahut gandi fielding kari. Ye catch chutne waale nahi hai (They missed very easy chances and were very disappointing on field),” he said.

After three straight losses in the Super 12 stage, Netherlands has been eliminated from contention and is currently ranked fifth in Group 2. With five points, South Africa is now in first place in group 2, while India has dropped to second after suffering its first loss in three games.

India’s defeat also means that Pakistan must defeat South Africa on Thursday in Sydney in order to remain in the competition.
