Vinesh Phogat has been part of some kind of controversy for the past week no matter what she does. For the past two weeks, she has been in Paris fighting for a medal that she lost because of 100 grams.
After a historic run to the finals of the Women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling event, Phogat was suspended as she was 100 grams over the weight limit on the day of the finals. It was a soul-crushing thing to hear.
She appealed against the decision to the CAS and demanded a joint silver medal for herself and USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt. But the appeal was rejected and Phogat had to return to India empty-handed.
During the case proceedings, Phogat also announced her retirement from wrestling. After the decision was announced, Vinesh posted a three-page long post where she thanked everyone for their efforts.
Tension In Phogat Family?
But the post has created a little bit of tension in the Phogat family. In the post, Phogat thanked her mother, her doctors, physicians, her coach, and her friends. But she forgot to mention the name of her uncle Mahavir Singh Phogat.
Mahavir had a very crucial role in shaping Vinesh as a wrestler. He used to train her with his daughters. And not seeing his name in the post has hurt some of the Phogat family members.
Firstly, Pawan Saroha, Vinesh’s brother-in-law and Geeta Phogat’s husband quoted the post and highlighted that Mahavir’s name is missing. Not long after that, Geeta herself posted a cryptic message about betrayal.

Amidst the chaos, Vinesh Phogat has landed in Delhi and received a deserved hero’s welcome. Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik went to the IGI airport to receive the returning wrestler alongside hundreds of fans.
