Rajeev Shukla Set to Take Over as Acting BCCI President

In a post made by India Today on X, which was followed by BCCI’s official announcement over Rajeev Shukla becoming the next president. The veteran administrator Rajeev Shukla will formally replace Roger Binny as acting BCCI president starting in July next month.

Binny has to step down upon turning seventy years old per the BCCI age cap rule next July. Shukla has served as BCCI vice president since 2020 and holds highly valuable, strong cricket administrative experience.

Rajeev Shukla is now a Rajya Sabha member of Congress; he also led the IPL as its chairman in past years. Roger Binny previously led the Karnataka board for the sport before becoming the BCCI president in 2022. Sources stated that the BCCI convention automatically names the senior-most office bearer to replace any departing president immediately.

Why the Change? BCCI’s Age-Cap Rule Comes into Play

Roger Binny steps down because he will officially cross the seventy-year age limit set by the BCCI rules. The BCCI constitution clearly bans any office bearer from holding a position after reaching seventy years old.

Rajeev Shukla brings strong leadership, political savvy, and cricket administration experience to drive BCCI forward. His understanding of IPL management, player development, and stakeholder engagement aligns with the board’s growth goals.

Binny’s Journey and Shukla’s Fit for the Role

He guided the BCCI during crucial schedules and managed board operations with skilled, strong, effective leadership. His tenure saw reforms in the domestic cricket structure and enhanced engagement with broader stakeholders nationwide.

Meanwhile, Shukla’s political experience and sporting expertise made him ideal for guiding BCCI governance next.  This rise ensures continuity and stability within BCCI’s cricket governance during this crucial transition period.
