IPL 2023: The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to kick off in a very exciting way with the first match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium at 7:30 PM IST. GT will have the advantage of playing on their home ground and will have support from the crowd. However, the photoshoot of the captains took place yesterday and with Rohit Sharma missing, fans were left confused.
Why did Rohit Sharma miss IPL 2023 Photo Shoot?
The day prior to the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, all the team captains assembled in Ahmedabad to participate in the pre-season photoshoot. MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya were already present in Ahmedabad, while the other team captains had to board a flight to reach the city.
It came as a surprise that Rohit Sharma was not present at the pre-season photoshoot and the Mumbai Indians franchise did not send any other player to represent the team. According to a report by The Times of India, Rohit is currently unwell and was unable to travel to the city. However, he is expected to recover in time for Mumbai Indians’ first match of the season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2.
An official anonymously said, “He was unwell and thus could not travel to Ahmedabad for the pre-IPL captains’ meeting and photoshoot. He is, however, likely to be available for MI’s opening game in IPL-2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2.”
Vice-Captain for MI in IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians (MI) do not have a designated vice-captain, but if Rohit Sharma is unavailable for any match, Suryakumar Yadav could lead the five-time IPL champions. Suryakumar is currently the stand-in vice-captain for the Indian T20 team. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Aiden Markram was unable to attend the photoshoot as he is still in South Africa. However, the franchise sent their representative to the city and Bhuvneshwar Kumar performed all the necessary duties.
