There will be no pressure on Rahane: Gavaskar

Former captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that in the absence of Virat Kohli, if Ajinkya Rahane is given the captaincy of India in the last three Tests against Australia, then there will be no pressure on him.

Kohli will return home on paternity leave after the first Test to be held in Adelaide. It is almost certain that Rahane will be seen captaining the three Tests of the series.

Gavaskar said in Star Sports’ Game Plan, “Ajinkya Rahane is under no pressure as he captained India twice and won both times. India won under Australia under Dharamshala under his captaincy and then also won against Afghanistan.

He said, “As far as his captaincy is concerned, there will be no pressure because he knows that he will be the acting captain for the next three Tests.”

Gavaskar said, “So I don’t think he would be thinking too much about captaincy.” Rahane captained India in both practice matches, which were a draw.
