Tokyo Paralympics: Sumit Antil wins gold medal in Javelin throw, 3 medals for India in Javelin on a single day

India’s heroics in Javelin throw continues as the nation won 3 medals in the sports on a single day at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Sumit Antil has set a new world record by winning the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin thorw-F64 final at the Tokyo Paralympics on Monday.

Antil hurled the spear to 68.55 metres, improving on his old mark of 62.88 set in November 2019.

Australia’s Michael Burian won the silver medal with 66.29 metres while Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku took the bronze medal with 65.61 metres. Both Antil and Burian went past the old world record while the Sri Lankan came up with his personal best.

Before Sumit the India’s Paralympics giant Devvendra Jhajaria won the silver. However he failed to win his third gold of the Paralympic Games.

hajharia, who won gold medals in 2004 Athens and 2016 Rio with world record throws, threw 64.35, much farther than his world record of 63.97 but Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Priyan Mudiyanselage Herath produced a gigantic throw of 67.79 to set a new world record and win the gold medal.

Sundar Singh Gurjar, a two-time World Championship gold medallist, took bronze with a best throw of 64.01 metres on Monday.
