Viral Video: Harmanpreet Kaur has now become a legendary figure in Indian cricket. With her ability and skillset, she is now the captain of Indian women cricket team. However, there is a instance from early years when she was asked to undergo a dope test because of her hard-hitting power. This incident happened during the 2009 World Cup match against Australia.

Why did Harmapreet Kaur undergo a dope test?

When Jhulan Goswami, the captain, was out after 47 over, Harmanpreet Kaur was asked to bat. Anjum Chopra announced, “You’re in next,” to Kaur, who was lounging around in her shorts in the changing room. A former captain had just asked the 19-year-old to bat in the final overs of a World Cup match against the defending champions, ahead of more senior hitters like Rumeli Dhar.

Following a few deliveries, Kaur thought its a do or die situation and she has to go for bigger hits. The 49th over was bowled by Emma Sampson, who was completely unaware of what lay ahead. Kaur stunned everyone when she went ahead twice in a single over, once for a four and once for a six.

The North Sydney Oval field was silent until the ball reached into the stands, struck the roof of the fifth delivery, and landed there. The Indian players in the locker room stood up from their seats as the bowlers and fielders stared, the moderately sized crowd looked to see how far would the ball go. That was the biggest six in Women’s cricket history.

India piled on a challenging 234 for 5 thanks to Harmanpreet Kaur and Amita Sharma, who combined for 73 runs in the final 7 overs, with Kaur striking a quickfire 19* off 8 balls.

What happened after the match?

Until that point, nobody would have expected that she will called to undergo a doping test for a six. Kaur was only nineteen, but the six she had struck had such force that the authorities wondered if she had been using performance-enhancing drugs. In fact, she was asked to send her bat to the lab for additional inspection. Nobody could have imagined a girl being able to hit a ball so high and far. It was a clean six. Later, her bat was released as clean and she was also charged clean with no issues.

Harmanpreet Kaur then went onto become a iconic figure in not just women’s cricket but men’s as well. She was also the first women to hit a century in T20 cricket. For her contribution to the nation, She was awarded with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2017.
